Entering Petra from the rear was the plan. We hiked up and down through rough, twisting terrain with switchbacks and narrow ledges, and no guard rails. The hot afternoon sun parched us. In what seemed like forever we finally reached The Monastery. It rose up out of the mountain as we rounded the curve on the trail. This was my first view of Petra. Magnificent!
